You have put lots of time, money, and heart into building a beautiful aquarium
and tending to the creatures inside it. Now that it’s time for a
business trip, family vacation, or weekend away, how do you ensure your
aquarium and its inhabitants are taken care of in your absence?
This may be more or less difficult depending on what kind of fish you have
and what their particular needs are, but, generally speaking, you have
two options when leaving your residential or commercial aquarium for a spell:
If fish are the only living creatures in your aquarium, you may be able
to feed them, then leave them without any maintenance for a week or so.
However, this is not the case for aquariums with marine plants, high-maintenance
fish, and other marine creatures.
Get a Fish-Sitter
If you will be gone for longer than a week or there is a chance that there
may a significant water temperature change for some reason during your
absence (which may occur in cases of extreme weather, power outages, or
fish tank equipment failure), getting a fish-sitter may be a good option.
Ask someone you trust to check in on your aquarium every couple of days
and ensure the temperature of the water is appropriate, the fish are well
fed, and your timed lights are functioning properly.
